While I know the intent was to grab attention, this headline is completely misleading. Ebay is mostly about connecting consumers to the products they want to buy in their daily lives, in other words, ebay’s customer is your typical “consumer”. Alibaba connects businesses to suppliers in the Far East, and globally. Their customer is your typical “business”. In this way they don’t compete directly at all.
Besides this, it’s a good article in learning that Alibaba has secured a great deal of funding (either this or they’re very profitable), as they alotted $30million in ad spend globally. We should be seeing a lot more of this brand in the future. http://adage.com/globalnews/article?article_id=138431
